Kitchen renovations
Three ways to renovate
Almost every New Zealand kitchen job is one of three things: keep the boxes and change what you touch, replace everything in the same footprint, or move the layout. They line up with the published market tiers of $15,000–25,000, $25,000–45,000 and $45,000–90,000 (CheckMyBuilder, July 2026).
Refresh
$15,000–$25,000
Same boxes, new everything you touch.
A kitchen refresh keeps the existing cabinet boxes and replaces the doors, drawer fronts, handles, benchtop and splashback. In New Zealand that sits in the budget tier of $15,000–25,000 (CheckMyBuilder, July 2026), because nothing moves and no services are relocated.
What changes
- New doors and drawer fronts, made to your existing carcass sizes
- New handles and soft-close hardware
- A new benchtop, templated to the existing run
- A new splashback
Timing
1–2 weeks on site, 5–8 weeks end to end including cabinetry manufacture.

$25,000–$45,000
A whole new kitchen in the same footprint.
Replacing a kitchen in the same footprint is the most common New Zealand renovation and sits in the mid-range tier of $25,000–45,000, with a national typical of about $35,000 (CheckMyBuilder, July 2026). Because the sink, waste and cooktop stay in their existing positions, there is no plumbing relocation cost and usually no building consent.
What changes
- All cabinetry removed and replaced, made by our partner joinery workshop
- New benchtop and splashback
- New sink, tap and waste in the existing positions
- New appliances, installed by the trade each one needs
Timing
3–6 weeks on site, 8–13 weeks end to end including cabinetry manufacture.

$45,000–$90,000
Change the layout, not just the kitchen.
A kitchen remodel moves the layout: the sink, waste, range or a wall changes position. In New Zealand that lands in the premium tier of $45,000–90,000 (CheckMyBuilder, July 2026), with plumbing relocation adding $3,000–8,000 and removing a structural wall $5,000–15,000 on top of the kitchen itself.
What changes
- A new layout, drawn to scale at the consult
- Sink, waste and appliances relocated by the trades licensed to do it
- An island or peninsula with services run to it
- Structural changes where the design needs them
Timing
5–10 weeks on site, 12–20 weeks end to end including cabinetry manufacture.
Enquiries only for nowWhy there is no price of ours on this page
Because we do not have one yet. Our package prices come from real quotes on standard scopes from the joinery workshop we are contracting, and we are not going to publish a “from” figure we made up in the meantime. What you see are the published New Zealand market ranges, with the source next to them.
What you can get today is the real number for your room: a $595 design consult produces two layouts drawn to scale and a line-item budget, credited in full against a build contract signed within six months.
Everything in every package
- A written, itemised scope before anything is ordered.
- Cabinetry made and fitted by our partner joinery workshop.
- Sanitary plumbing by an authorised plumber; fixed wiring by a registered electrician, with certification.
- A published payment schedule: 20 / 40 / 30 / 10.
- A contingency line, and whatever is not spent comes back to you.
