Terms of trade
These terms cover the $595 design consult and how a build contract with us would work. Last updated 15 September 2026.
1. Who you are dealing with
NZ Kitchen Renovations is a trading name of Kauri Ridge Holdings Limited, NZBN 9429050000017. NZ Kitchen Renovations is the trading name shown throughout this site and the party you contract with. Notices can be sent to hello@nz-kitchen-renovations.co.nz.
2. The design consult
The consult is $595 including GST, paid before the visit. For that fee we provide, within five working days of the visit:
- two kitchen layout options drawn to scale, supplied as a PDF;
- a line-item budget range with a source for each band;
- a written scope of works;
- a note of which parts of the work require a licensed trade, and whether the job appears to raise a consent question.
The budget is an estimate, not a quote or a fixed price. Consent advice is our reading of your job and is not a determination: your council decides that.
3. Refunds on the consult
The consult fee is refunded in full if:
- you cancel more than 24 hours before your confirmed visit;
- we cannot offer you a visit within 10 working days of your payment;
- we do not deliver the plan within 5 working days of the visit; or
- we discover we cannot serve your area.
Once the plan has been delivered the fee is not refundable, because you have received what you paid for and the drawings are yours to use anywhere. Cancelling inside 24 hours of a confirmed visit forfeits the fee, because the designer's day is committed. Refunds go back to the card used, and we do not deduct payment-processing fees from what we return.
4. The credit
If you sign a fixed-price build contract with us within six months of your consult, the full $595 is credited against the first payment under that contract. The credit is not transferable, is not redeemable for cash, and applies to one contract only.
5. Ownership of the plans
The drawings, budget and scope are yours to keep and to give to other companies for pricing. We retain copyright in the drawings and the right to reuse our own templates and methods; you have an unrestricted licence to use the documents for your own renovation.
6. Build contracts
Any build is governed by a separate written contract, which sets out the scope, price, programme, variations process, defects period and the trades engaged. Nothing on this website is an offer to build at a particular price. Our proposed payment schedule is:
- 20% on signing the contract. Less your $595 consult credit.
- 40% when your cabinetry goes into manufacture. This pays the workshop's material order.
- 30% on delivery to site.
- 10% on completion. Once the plumber's and electrician's compliance records are handed over.
New Zealand law imposes requirements on residential building contracts above a value threshold, including written contracts, disclosure and a prescribed checklist, along with implied warranties. Those requirements apply in addition to these terms, and they cannot be contracted out of. What to look for in a contract.
7. Who does the work
We design and manage. Cabinetry is made and fitted by a partner joinery workshop. Sanitary plumbing and gasfitting are carried out by a person authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board; fixed wiring by a registered electrician who provides the certification; restricted building work by a Licensed Building Practitioner. We do not hold those licences and we do not perform that work ourselves.
8. Your rights under New Zealand law
Where you are a consumer, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 gives you guarantees that cannot be excluded, including that services are carried out with reasonable care and skill and are fit for purpose. The Fair Trading Act 1986 prohibits misleading conduct. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes those rights. If something is wrong, tell us first: we would rather fix it than argue about it.
9. Prices and GST
All prices shown on this site are in New Zealand dollars and include GST where GST applies. We register for GST before entering our first build contract, and tax invoices carry our GST number from that point.
10. Cost figures on this website
The cost ranges, calculators and guides on this site are general information built from published third-party sources, named on each page with the date we checked them. They are not a quote and not advice about your particular kitchen. We update them quarterly and correct errors when we find them.
11. Cancelling a build contract
Cancellation terms are set out in the build contract itself, and they reflect that cabinetry is made to order: once your job is in manufacture, materials have been bought for your room specifically and cannot be resold. That is why the schedule above ties a payment to the start of manufacture.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to you is the one published when you paid for your consult or signed your contract, and we will send you a copy on request.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
